Chiropractic and Children

Many chronic pain syndromes and other health problems seen in adults began during childhood. Such conditions may be the result of physical trauma (fractures, falls, etc.), or derived from unhealthy lifestyle.  For this, and other reasons, more and more parents are seeking Chiropractic care for their children.

Our child is seen regularly by our pediatrician, why should we also frequent a Chiropractor?

Doctors of Chiropractic recognize the value of working in conjunction with other health care professionals. Chiropractic provide a very unique service that complements well with other professions.

As specialists in neuro-musculo-skeletal conditions, Chiropractors are trained to manage many of the common conditions seen in childhood without resorting to drugs or surgery to do so.

What's more, the Chiropractic approach is holistic, meaning that the entire state of a patient’s health is considered, not just the local area of symptoms.

What are some of the most common childhood conditions seen by Chiropractors?

Residual effects of physical trauma
Back pain
Headache
Neck pain
Torticollis
Chronic fatigue
Asthma
Enuresis
Otitis media
TMJ malocclusion disorder
Scoliosis
Postural deviations

Dr. Morrison is also specialized in Applied Kinesiology, a vast system of health care which enables Chiropractors to go beyond the standard musculo-skeletal conditions, and into complex health conditions. With a particular focus on clinical nutrition, Dr. Morrison manages many of the problems which stem from food sensitivities and biochemical deficiencies. Is maintenance care appropriate for children?

In many cases, maintenance care is a great way of helping children to stay in good health and prevent injury. Periodic treatment also has a positive influence on a child's emotional and mental state, which is very important during growth stages.

When is the best time for my child to begin chiropractic care?

Right now, before small problems turn into a big problems. Unfortunately, most parents don't consider going to a Chiropractor unless their child has something obvious like a postural distortion, or some other chronic problem. But the reality is, many problems of the future can be prevented early on in life with quality therapy.
