The Heart

"The most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched, they must be felt with the heart.”

— Albert Einstein

The heart is the most powerful organ in the body. Compared to the brain, the heart generates electrical signals that are 60 times more powerful and possesses an electromagnetic field that is 5000 times larger. During periods of heightened activity, the heart's energy production can reach up to 5 watts, matching the power of smartphone chargers and portable Bluetooth speakers.

Entrainment
Can you think of someone whose presence seems to pacify those around them? Given that the heart's electromagnetic field can extend up to three feet from the body, it's easy to see how certain individuals can exert such a healing influence. This phenomenon, is referred to as entrainment, and in a similar way, the heart imparts a restorative effect on all organ systems in the body.

Just as the brain can be reshaped through neuroplasticity, the heart can also be trained. By guiding the heart to produce harmonious rhythmic patterns, we can enhance both physical and mental health as well as:

The Procedure
The following technique was developed by the Institute of HeartMath:*
1. Shift your focus to the area around your heart.
2. Breathe slowly and deeply, visualizing your breath flowing directly to your heart with each inhale and exhale.

Steps 1 and 2 alone are sufficient to yield results. For optimal impact, simultaneously infuse your heart with feelings of appreciation, affection, or joy.

Establishing a routine before bedtime is conducive to restful and restorative sleep, while initiating it at the start of the day helps set positive intentions. However, there is no prescribed time for this exercise; it can be performed at any hour, in any setting.

Results
In my practice, I have consistently observed that dedicating as little as 5 minutes a day brings about substantial, measurable changes. With continued practice, it helps build resilience and adaptability in response to the external world.

There is nothing in this world that can hurt you as much as your thoughts, and there is nothing that can heal you as much as your thoughts. This exercise helps dissolve destructive emotions and allows the brain to begin following the heart’s cues, rather than the other way around.
