Back Pain
Description
Back pain is one of the most common reasons people seek chiropractic care. For some, it strikes suddenly — a sharp, debilitating pain after bending at the waist. For others, it lingers for months or even years, presenting as a constant stiffness or dull ache that interferes with daily life.

- Sharp or stabbing pain
- Tired or fatigued
- Tingling
- Burning

Causes
General:
There are numerous potential causes of back pain. Here are some of the most common:
- Food allergies / dietary habits
- Side effects of medication
- Foot, ankle, knee or hip pathology
- Past physical trauma to any part of the body
- Digestion / viscerally related (irritable bowel, dysbiosis, colitis, ulcer, hiatal hernia, chronic diarrhea, constipation, etc.)
- Piercing
- Emotions
- Arthritis
- Obesity
- Lack of adequate rest
Structural:
- Pelvis / sacrum misalignment
- Muscle spasm
- “Locking” of lumbar vertebrae (subluxations)
- Herniated disc
- Trigger points
- Overstretching of ligaments and joints
- Surgical scars: c-section, hernia, etc.
Chiropractic / Applied Kinesiology Approach to Back Pain
Numerous studies have shown that chiropractic care provides superior long-
term outcomes for back pain compared to other therapeutic approaches. Yet
many individuals who begin care for back pain also report improvements in
other areas of health.
For example, women often experience a significant reduction—and sometimes complete resolution—of longstanding menstrual discomfort. Men have reported improvements in erectile function or increased libido. Enhanced digestion is also commonly noted in both sexes.
These results are not coincidental. The nerves that supply the muscles of the
lower back also serve various organs and glands. By addressing dysfunction at the spinal level, chiropractic care supports the health and function of the body’s interconnected systems.
